In the early 1980's Virginia and Joanne met through their common interest in retriever field work. Joanne was campaigning her first golden, Am Can CH Sharmel's Autumn Magic CDX WCX Can CD, in obedience and conformation and was drawn into field training by the WC / WCX program offered by the GRCA. At the same time Virginia was training her first golden, Sunfires's Sweet Mischief CD SH WCX Can CD WC, for field trials, eventually doing some obedience work with her. Joanne kept a puppy, Pippin, from the second Otterbrook litter and began to train and run hunt tests with Virginia. Involved in the AKC Hunt Test program since the beginning they both have competed and titled multiple dogs in all levels and are licensed judges. Primarily interested in performance dogs they work their puppies in the areas in which they show a desire and aptitude. This has lead them into many new venues besides field trials and hunt tests including agility, obedience, and tracking.
